Barbara Rizzi, VP and Claims Manager (Professional Liability)

We have an incredibly talented Italian-speaking claims and underwriting team in our London office, fully conversant with both the Italian company and Lloyd’s markets. The ILLCA Meet the Market event in Milan on 14 November offered the perfect opportunity for the Arch team to fly out and engage with the Italian insurance community face-to-face.

Hosted by Lloyd’s of London, ILLCA Meet the Market in Milan is an annual event that brings the national insurance community together to focus on the Italian market. For all our colleagues dealing with Italian business, it’s a calendar highlight.

I visited Milan with an Arch team comprised of Alessandro Motta (Claims Handler), Austen Barnes (Underwriting manager PI), Michael Chu (Vice president D&O), Jelle Ouwehand (Senior Underwriter Terrorism), Rory Thompson (Underwriter Casualty), Marco Caldi (Underwriter D&O), Aimee James (Senior Underwriter D&O), Sebastian Jay Terry (Senior Underwriter A&H) and Ashlea Messore (Underwriter Fine Art & Specie).

Our underwriters were there to represent the wide range of business we write in Italy, including Financial Lines, (including Gross Negligence and Public Entities), Terrorism, Casualty, Accident & Health and Specie.

Some colleagues came along for the first time, while others have been attending for years. Alessandro and I are both Italian, but our colleagues can keep up with us conversing in our home country!

The evening ahead of the main event, we hosted a cocktail party for our local contacts at the Sheraton Diana Majestic Hotel in Milan. It’s the second year Arch have hosted the party, and we were delighted to witness such a large turnout.

It was a great opportunity to reconnect and catch up with our contacts in Italy. Plenty of familiar faces returned and even introduced us to their own networks. There was certainly a lively atmosphere and we are very grateful to everyone who shared their evening with us!

On the day of ILLCA Meet the Market, we networked with the Italian insurance community and heard from a stellar line-up of keynote speakers including Sonja Rottiers, CEO of Lloyd’s Brussels and Regional Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa, Mark Cooper, Lloyd’s Head of Market Development for the European Market and Catriona Graham, the British Consul General in Milan.

As the speakers expressed the Lloyd’s commitment to doing business in Italy, we reflected on what it meant to us to be in Milan and gathered under the same roof as so many of Italy’s insurance professionals.

This dedication to the Italian market is something we share. The Arch approach to doing business is all about people – we believe in building relationships, meeting the customer face-to-face and hearing what they have to say.

It was a pleasure return to Milan, one of our favourite cities, and listen to the voice of our customers there.
